Earlier this week, I proposed an interesting concept to contemplate. What if you had a 25th hour in your day? What would you do differently in your life? That is, how would you spend it?
Okay, it’s true that what I’ve proposed will probably never happen. I say probably because you never know what the universe will hold or what those geeks at the Royal Observatory overseeing Greenwich Mean Time might do to rock our world – or our calendars. But it is fascinating when you really stop to think about your day, your month, your year, and finally realize that – despite life’s accidents and others’ spontaneity aside – you are plotting along your own path (whether you know it or not) and how you spend any hour – the 1st, the 10th, even the 25th of your day – is after all…a choice.
So how would I spend it? Hmmm…
If I had a 25th hour to spend, I’d pick one of three ways (and perhaps it would vary from day-to-day). I feel like I’m deficient in all three of these areas, so anything would help.
Sleep…I definitely don’t get enough of it, and according to Dr. Oz, it can’t be helping my health scores. An extra hour put to use on the pillow could actually be the most advantageous move for me.
Spending time outside… whether it’s simply listening to the birds, daydreaming, contemplating, meditating or fill in the blank. Nothing ever totally relaxes like a day at the beach, a stroll through the park, a morning of reading on a balcony while vacationing somewhere. It is truly heaven and eases the mind like nothing else.
And finally… learning. I’ve realized so much over the past couple of years how much I still have to learn. What if I took that 25th hour – or heck, even that 24th hour now – and learned about one new thing every day, by reading, doing, sampling, talking to someone, and so on? Just think how much more I could know in a week, in a month…holy crap, in a year!
What would you do with that 25th hour right now and is there any way that you could change your day now to reap the benefits of this use of time? I’d love to hear what your day would look like, too. Now let’s all start writing those Greenwich Mean folks immediately!
Cheers to finding that daily spark in your life!
