Well, it certainly took me long enough to post this but it is that time to reflect again on the music that started my mornings (and yours, I hope!) in June with my monthly #SongOfTheDay recap. Maybe it’s the sweltering summer heat that has melted the scrambled eggs in my noggin to dawdle on posting but I hope it’s worth the wait. And I might add, it could be a fun way to spend a July afternoon, skipping around from tune to tune for an eclectic music set. After all, June was an interesting hodge-podge of artists and sounds. More about that below…

JUNE 2016 —The best way to describe my June #SOTD list is indescribable. There is definitely no underlying theme but there sure are plenty of terrific artists across everything from Motown to pop to classic rock to 80s dance to contemporary country. Over the course of the month, we celebrated visiting family with Sister Sledge, tried to reconcile some tragedy with Erasure, Marvin Gaye, Jackie DeShannon, Gary Jules and the late rising star Christina Grimmie, taken way too early by senseless gun violence, a recurring theme in our world that unfortunately has made its presence known quite a bit lately, sad to say. It was a contemplative month but it was also a time to let go of the responsibilities on occasion to remind ourselves…it is summer after all. So I ended the month with a much-needed summer music break that crept into the first week of July with the likes of Bananarama, Martha and the Vandellas, Lovin’ Spoonful, Sly and the Family Stone, Belinda Carlisle and Sheryl Crow. They delivered the sunny tunes, because we definitely needed them after this month of devastating news headlines, frustrating political nonsense and the growing restlessness that arrives with summer humidity. We learned this month that we only had each other and frankly, this life would suck without you (as my pictured songstress Kelly Clarkson so eloquently put it).
My #ForgottenTunes fun continued and I gave you some 60s, 70s and 80s magic courtesy of The Left Banke, Jim Steinman, The Moody Blues, Cheap Trick and Boz Scaggs. I hope you enjoyed hearing some old favorites that don’t always gain much airtime on oldies radio stations.
Aah, July. What will we say about your notes and melodies when we take a look back? We’ll find out soon enough. For now, let us enjoy the sounds of summer in this tribute to June 2016 #SongOfTheDay. Enjoy! xo ~ CK
