Last week, we took a look ahead with words. This week, I propose we take a fond look backward but in a creative fashion, of course. I am calling this Kuhnspiration activity, The Object of My Affection.
Look throughout your home, your belongings. Set your sights on something that maybe you haven’t stopped to study for a while, like that painting you got from Aunt Nancy or a stowed away beautiful necklace a good friend clipped around your neck on your wedding day. You might have selected something that you use every day but don’t really bother to think about the story behind it. Or maybe the object represents something you always said you would use but haven’t gotten around to it.
Whatever the object may be, put into words the place it holds in your personal journey and in the world you’ve created around you. In a paragraph (or two), recount the story behind its origins, the meaning it holds for you personally, maybe even what role it will play in your future.
Stop in the tracks of your whirlwind life to take a look around you and your surroundings, and pick out one item that enriches life for you in some way, giving it a well-earned second look as you begin to tell your own story. Feel free to share your “Objects of My Affection” entry here in the comments section or on my Facebook page, and I too will offer my thoughts for the exercise later this week.
Cheers to finding that daily spark in your life!
