Your Weekly Kuhnspiration (May 7, 2012)

Greetings…

I’m about to embark on a new adventure focused on fear and overcoming it – more on this very soon…but it led me to think about the concept of fear. There are outright, undeniable threats. A scorpion about to sting you? Threatening. An out-of-control speeding 18-wheeler careening toward your car on an icy roadway? Threatening. Someone coming straight for you with a machete? Definitely a threat.

And there are all kinds of fears…professional (like failure or bad word of mouth), personal (like bats, rats and heights) and the more bizarre and far more interesting (like the fear of clowns or Elvis Presley impersonators).

But fear for the sake of fear – not based on an actual real threat is…well…a figment of our imaginations really. Isn’t it?

For example, if you’re afraid to speak in front of a large group because you think you’ll trip up your words or sound “stupid,” well, none of this has actually happened or will necessarily happen. But we let fear make our imaginary scenarios come to life. And just how prominent a role that fear plays is usually indicative of how many and how frequent these doomsday scenarios happen to magically appear.

So this week, as I contemplate my own fears, I ask you…

What is your greatest fear? Why is that and what have you done to attempt to appease it or obliterate it completely?

Later this week, I’ll be back to offer my own thoughts on the subject. For now, go forth and run amok…and love every damn minute of it. Deal?

Cheers to finding that daily spark in your life!

Chris
