Goal Checkpoint

Goal Checkpoint

Whether you call them resolutions, goals or changes you decided to embark on for 2019, I have a question for you: how’s it going? How successful have you been able to be at meeting the daily challenges, whatever they may be? I did not make a huge list of big, lofty goals for the new year. I stopped doing that a long time ago. But every year for the past 10 years or so I have set creative goals for myself each year.

This year, I set a few. I’m continuing my daily pics but with an #artinspired theme so my photo inspirations and titles relate to everything from song and movies to books, art works or TV shows. You can follow my #2019photochallenge entries daily on my Instagram page. Another creative challenge I took on for 2019 is to blog. Daily. As in EVERY day. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but never have. I mean, NEVER. (Speaking of which, are you subscribed to my blog? Click here and you can sign up to receive notifications right in your inbox, just by scrolling down the home page and filling in your email address to subscribe! Just confirm your subscription in an email you’ll receive once you do. And it’ll be easy to keep up with me every day.)

So…take a moment and clink glasses with me because as of Thursday, January 31, I made personal creative history. I’ve blogged every day this year so far. Woot woot! I have been blogging in some form or another – for myself or work-related parties – for over 10 years. But never in those 10 years have I ever managed to blog that consistently. I realize for some bloggers this is nothing – easy peasy, even – but for me, it’s a big deal.

When I set my creative goals for this year, I thought the ‘blog daily’ one was rather ambitious (maybe a little too ambitious) but I did give myself some relief when I offered the clarification that I just had to post something on my blog every day for a full year, it didn’t necessarily mean I needed to carve out a thematic blog or dissertation daily. Sometimes I blog more traditionally (like this) and other times, I may just find a particular photo that sparks an observation or memory I feel like sharing. Other times, I pull from my social media pages, particularly Twitter, and feature the content here since not everyone lives in the land of tweets (not that I blame them – it has become quite loud and rowdy over there the past couple of years…gee, I wonder why).

Although I know it’s probably premature to start shooting off fireworks and calling for dancing in the street, I am encouraged by my commitment to this blog so far. One month down, eleven to go. Whew. I can do this! My work schedule is not always kind to my free time, but I am doing everything I can to stay on track with my creative goals this year. And I hope you, too, have been able to dedicate yourself to fulfilling whatever goals or resolutions you set for yourself.

Please share with me your own progress and if there is any encouragement or advice I can offer, all you’ve got to do is ask. I’d love to hear from you. Comment here with any feedback or questions and I’ll respond as soon as I can. As always, thanks for reading! ~ Chris K.
