Before we’re already at the halfway point of September, I thought I better post my August musical celebration otherwise known as my Monthly #SongOfTheDay Recap. August was an interesting month because I had some downtime scheduled which involved both a short staycation and a relaxing beach vacation. I think those may have heavily influenced how the month kicked off. I couldn’t think of any better way than with the summer classic “Vacation” by my beloved Go-Gos (seen above in a shot from waaaaaaaay back, long before Belinda sported that charming bob of hers a decade later). But when I look through the month, I see a lot of slow, steady and sultry tunes…some soulful sauntering and raw, laid-back rock and roll and country. Yeah, when I read this playlist, I can definitely tell I was either on vacation or had not left that frame of mind after I got back! So let us travel back to last month. AUGUST 2016 — This month I had some special occasions to honor with my daily song choice. I went on vacation for two weeks, hubs and I celebrated a personal milestone marking our first date (22 years earlier), the Olympics returned, and once again, we all had a need to heal as we said goodbye to comedy legend Gene Wilder and celebrated his warmth and charm through one of his most beloved tunes from the classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Overall, the month was marked by some old favorites like Stevie Wonder, the Beach Boys and Fleetwood Mac to much more recent artists such as Black Keys, Guster and Michael Kiwanuka.
For August, the #ForgottenTunes selections were diverse to say the least, crossing over genres but primarily staying within the 70s and 80s zones. From the funky sounds of Soul II Soul and a nostalgic 80s nod to Duran Duran and Jeff Healy Band to a JUMP back to the 70s and a personal favorite but lesser known Harry Nilsson tune, I had a blast finding some goodies to celebrate and send a little love in their oft-forgotten direction. Hope you enjoyed hearing them again, too.
